Classic Rock and Pop Oldies Continue at GreatGold

GREATGOLD.FM – With the continuing escalation of internet play digital music licensing costs, in an effort to continue operating a legal internet radio station, GreatGold.fm Classic Hit Oldies has entered into an arrangement with the Radionomy Group. Under the arrangement, Radionomy occasionally inserts commercials into the over the internet audio programming. Radionomy then uses the income they gain from the advertisers to pay the streaming and music licensing costs on GreatGold.fm’s behalf.

GreatGold.fm has been a legal internet radio station since the beginning of the first day, because “we believe the creators of the wonderful classic hits from the 1950s through the 2000s deserve to be compensated for the results of their work”. In doing so, GreatGold had been paying the songwriters and musicians monthly for the songs and recordings played 365 days and nights, 52 weeks out of each of the nearly 10 years, since 2008. “We find we could no longer continue to do so, strictly out of our own pockets. Luckily, we found Radionomy.”

GreatGold.fm had been operating the station on a retired person’s income as the hobby of a former, professional, over-the-air radio personality and news person. That limited retirement income has not increased substantially since the project began, however, the expenses have gotten greater and greater every year. So, even though the music lover who started this internet radio station would dearly love to continue, finances did not allow that to happen without outside help. That’s where Radionomy comes in.

Unless GreatGold gains revenue through other sources, “we found we could no longer pay the music copyright and performance fees, which accumulate every time, every listener, hears each, individual song we play. Every time we play it.” Radionomy is the solution that covers the obligation to pay the largest monthly expense which goes to compensate the music creators through music royalties for internet play.

Radionomy does not interfere with the content of the 24 hour audio programming in any way. The GreatGold.fm Classic Hits Mix of the best Classic Rock and Pop Oldies from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s and beyond, continues as before. The only difference is a maximum of two brief commercial breaks, twice per hour, with thirty minutes of music in between. The Radionomy Group administers the commercial inserts only, while GreatGold continues to be programmed and operated as before from studios in the United States of America.
