2018 Rock Hall Of Famers Bon Jovi, Straits, Cars, Simone, Tharpe, Moody Blues Get Extra April PlayApril brings the annual ceremony to honor the latest inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. The 33rd Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place Saturday, April 14, 2018 in Cleveland. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland, Ohio, announced the 2018 crop of musicians scheduled for induction in a ceremony in April, 2018. They are performers, (see photo-top-left) Bon Jovi, (bottom-left) The Cars, (bottom-left) Dire Straits, (top-right) The Moody Blues, and (center-left) Nina Simone, plus (center-right) Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Tharpe is being recognized for being an early influence on rock and roll. Sister Rosetta became famous in 1938 with a record called “Rock Me.”

Tharpe was a star through the 1940’s, singing gospel music to the accompaniment of her own driving electric guitar. Her 1945 recording “Strange Things Happening Every Day” has been credited as the first gospel song to cross over to the “race” radio and music charts (later called “R&B”), reaching Number Two and becoming an early model for rock and roll. She was an early inspiration to Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and other rock stars, including the bands being installed in 2018.
